Found this little gem on Yelp. Best BBQ I've had in Louisiana and one of my top 20 nationally. I eat at a crap ton of BBQ joints all across U.S. Here's what I liked: Ribs 100% yum yum, there is a sweet almost candy like Chinese pork crust on these, bad ass. BBQ beans, damn say whaaaatttt!!! They serve this thick Texas toast that just mops up the bean juice. Cole slaw, good but did have some tough bits in it. Texas Toast very good. Here's what I thought was ok: Pulled pork, just middle of the road Peach cobbler, it was ok, I make it way better, lots of room for improvement. Place needs a little bump on the buffet line, looks sloppy, was a turn off. What I didn't like: Sliced brisket, kinda rubbery, had decent taste, but something wasn't right about it. 4 stars for ribs and beans for sure... Almost there, good value too.

On a Southern roadtrip and of course one of the things a foodie looks for is good barbecue. Using a combination of Yelp, Foursquare, and my aunt's Garmin GPS system, we cam across the BBQ West as the final destination for dinner. Take note, we had gone to two other barbecue places however one was closed down and the other closed 7pm! 7pm? Why?? Maybe the answer was we were beckoned to to go the BBQ West for some Southern comfort food. This place did not disappoint!! I walk in and its got that mom and pop feel. The first thing you see when you get in line is where the meat is cut and put on a plate and then the side items. I go for the 2 meat 2 side item. I chose pulled pork and the brisket. with the side items of mac and cheese and peach cobbler. My absolute thanks and admiration to whomever was in charge of making peach cobbler a side item!! The staff was friendly and very hospitable. Its how I imagine the South and America to be. Taste: The pulled pork was tender and moist, delicious!. The brisket was good and the side items were good, I forgot to mention the cole slaw, that to was very good tasted fresh and loved the crunch!!. And I loved the peach cobbler. The food tasted like I was at someone's home. I was borderline close to having a ratatouille movie moment where the food critic gets blown back to his childhood eating his mom's cooking as he tastes the food. Although I'm not from the suth, all I can say is thank you BBQ West for the great food and hospitality. This place made me appreciate the United States and how sometimes we forget that its a big country and plenty of things to discover and be thankful for.

Fast service, quality food for the price of fast food. They have daily specials and a buffet on Sundays. The ribs and chicken are my favorite but the pulled pork is very good as well. The meat is tender and full of smoked flavor goodness. Their BBQ sauce is a good balance to the seasoning and smokiness of their meat. You cant go wrong with their baked beans, they are slow cooked with the burnt ends of brisket in it. The potato salad is very good as well.

GREAT ! The staff was very friendly. The food was excellent. My husband and I had the brisket poboy with potato salad. It was fantastic. Very tender, and the sauce was excellent. I normally hate restaurant potato salad, but I must say that there's was very good. We were very impressed ! We will definitely go back again.

I love this place! They have an all you can eat buffet on Sundays and you can add ribs to it for a total of only $13 per patron. The ribs are my favorite! Not too spicy, very sweet and smokey! They fall right off the bone! I love it!

Discovered this place while my husband and I were out shopping. Since we love barbecue, we decided to try it. I had the brisket and ribs with dirty rice and mac; my husband had the brisket and ham with dirty rice and mac. Positives: The meat was delicious. Homemade bread was fantastic. Staff was very friendly; treated us like we'd been in there a million times. Bathroom was very clean. Negatives: We weren't too wild about our sides. Since we dined in, after we got our meat we walked up the line and it took us a minute to figure out we were supposed to get our own sides. Had to go back up to get barbecue sauce. Overall, it was a good experience and we will definitely go back.

Very friendly staff. First time visiting as I was picking up lunch for my employees. Everything was ready, got, and fresh. They even carried the order for me to my truck. I had problems keeping my workers working and not in the break room eating the BBQ. Everyone here enjoyed it and will go back for more.

Best baked beans ever!!! The sliced brisket is amazing. BBQ sauce is just right, not too sweet or too tangy. Great quality every time!

Best bbq in town. If you aren't going to cook at home this is pretty close to the style and taste that I prefer. I have tried both the chicken and ribs and both are delicious. I am VERY picky about ribs and was actually a shocked at how much I liked these. Tender, the right flavor. The sauce they cook on the meat is thick and sweet. Their dipping sauce is thinner with more vinegar. Both are great and I like the combination of flavors. We always order extra sauce! The bread is dynamite...mmmmm. The only improvement I think that could be made is with the sides, I did not find them as flavorful as the main items.

These guys make the best BBQ Baked Beans I have ever eaten. Fantastic! They actually take pride in their side dishes. There is nothing fancy about this establishment, and the food speaks for itself (Just as it should). Best BBQ place in the Lake Area. Strong work folks!

  • Jared B.

The brisket is the best around. Everything is smoked in red oak out back. The staff is very friendly and the side dishes are also delicious. I haven't had a bad meal there yet!

    (5)
  • Christy L.

Start off with the positive... The dirty rice and sliced bread were awesome!!! The meat had good flavor but was a tad on the dry side. The ribs were delicious but could have been cooked a little longer - I like mine falling off the bone. Overall it's the best bbq I have found around here so I will go again (if not just for the dirty rice and bread!). The people were friendly and the price was great! My husband and I split the belt buster for $13.99 so we could sample all the meat and still had food left over.

Fast service and quality BBQ. I had the chicken, pork, and mac&cheese. All were very good. I hope this restaurant actually lasts in that cursed spot.

My review of BBQ West This is the old location of backyard burger and then Taco Taquito, both had no luck. I found out about this place when I ate at outback steakhouse, on my way to the doors I stopped and smelled this wonderful smell, Which turned out to be the smoke pit from BBQ West. I told myself at that point that I have to try this place. The locations floor plan is pretty boring and wide-open format. I was expecting the employees to be MUCH more friendlier considering they are a brand new restaurant trying to make a good impression. They just seemed too unenthusiastic. The cashier was nice, and helpful, even though the credit card reader declined both of my cards... I have no idea why, she said there was some kind of issue with it recently. *Onto the food* What I ordered: Brisket & Pulled Pork w/ Dirty Rice & Mac N Cheese Price $10 w/ no drink Average price for a BBQ plate The meats looked and taste dry. With the sauce on, it was a bit better, but it was still just -okay. The pork could have been carved better as it had more fat than to my likings. I could taste the smoked flavor, but the brisket in particular was very dry, and I wasn't sure if it was just a bad batch : or if its ALL that dry. Bottom line for the meat was NOTHING SPECIAL. I expected more. Sides: I prefer my macaroni and cheese to be a little more 'buffet' au-gratin style, but this was a little watery, yet with plenty of cheese. I can see how other people may like it. The dirty rice was good, flavorful, but still nothing out of this world. They gave a piece of bread with my meal which was real good. Price $10 (which is avg. for a BBQ 2-meat plate) Portion is a pretty good amount of food. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this place. I expected SOO much more. For the first part of the meal I actually found myself in a bit of denial, just because my desire to have a good BBQ joint in the area is at an all time high. However, I knew it wasn't what it needed to be. Considering this is a SECOND location (they have a location in Monroe) I thought they would be a bit better, and never thought the meat would be as dry as it was. As I said before it even looked real dry! The food wasn't horrible, and I ate all the food (except the pile of fat trimmings I cut off the pork). I rate this place 4.5/10 stars. I hope to give them a second chance sometimes, but first impressions mean a lot to me. Also, they have a buffet on Sundays from 10-3 which you may want to give some thought, could be good! Let Me know what y'all think of the place, I would love to know, to see if this was a rare occasion or not.

  • Edna L.

The BBQ meat was good, but had to dip in extra sauce. I had the ribs, brisket and chicken. The ribs were the best out of the three. Don't bother with the mac and cheese. Not a lot of flavor and swimming in liquid cheese. Dirty rice was good.

Really good BBQ. Got lucky to stumble on this place as we were looking for a place to eat lunch before catching a movie in Lake Charles. Had the pulled pork and ribs along with 2 sides (baked beans, which were awesome, and potato salad which was good but not great). The ribs had a really good flavor with a sweet BBQ sauce (while their 'side' of BBQ sauce was a bit more tangy and also delicious) and the pulled pork was cooked perfectly. I also tried the BBQ chicken which my wife ordered and it was juicy with flavorful, crispy skin. It's a cafeteria style place so you'll order, pay and take your food to one of many tables (some communal). The workers were incredibly friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend this BBQ spot to anybody in the area.

Well, it lives up to it's other reviews. This place is legit. After finding out that my favorite spot in Lake Charles stopped cooking rib dinners a while back, everyone said give BBQ West a try. So that's what we did. It was pretty good. We ended up getting a belt buster, which I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it fulfilled our needs. We got ribs that were really good, but a little fatty, but to be expected. (I like the end pieces). We also got some sausage. For sides, we got the green beans and rice dressing (dirty rice). It was very good. And finally two buttered slices of Texas toasts. We found out, after the fact, that the peach cobbler was good. Next time, I guess.

Solid BBQ. It was our first time here so we tried the brisket, sausage and ribs. All three were spot on! Also grabbed a pint of cobbler for take away which was as good as all the previous posters suggested. Glad to have found my go to BBQ place in Lake Charles!

I ate the brisket and ribs. I found the brisket to be fairly moist and a decent amount of smoke. The ribs were tender and had a sweet stickiness to them. Over all some of the best barbecue in Lake Charles? I will go back for more taste testing.
